Fix Links Missing from Manual Excerpts in Neve
If hyperlinks you added to a manually written post excerpt no longer appear on your blog or archive pages, an outdated Neve version is the most likely cause. This guide explains why the links disappear and how to bring them back.

Symptoms
- Linked text disappears from post cards on the blog page and on category, tag, or other archive pages.
- The excerpt, including its links, still looks correct in the post editor's Excerpt field.
Why the links disappear
Neve shortens each excerpt to the number of words set in its Excerpt length option, and this also applies to excerpts you write yourself. Older Neve versions removed all HTML from a manual excerpt while shortening it, so hyperlinks were stripped out even when the linked text was within the configured length. This is resolved in current Neve versions, which keep the links intact.
Update Neve to restore the links
Update the Neve parent theme to the latest available release by following How to update to the latest version. If you use a child theme, only the parent Neve theme needs the update.
Confirm the fix
- Reload an affected blog or archive page. If you use a caching plugin or server-side cache, clear the cache first.
- Check that the linked text in the manual excerpt is visible and clickable again.
How Neve handles manual excerpts
Even on the latest version, a manual excerpt is not always displayed in full. Neve trims it to the word count set in Appearance > Customize > Blog > Blog/Archive, under the Excerpt length option, while keeping the links inside the kept text.
If linked text sits beyond that word count, it is cut off together with the rest of the trimmed text. To make it show, increase Excerpt length or move the link earlier in the excerpt. See Neve Blog/Archive Options for the surrounding blog and archive settings.
