Understanding Renewal Pricing
When your Themeisle subscription renews, you may notice that the renewal price differs from what you originally paid. This guide explains how renewal pricing works and why this happens.
Why Is My Renewal Price Different?
There are several common reasons why your renewal price may be different from your initial purchase:
Introductory or promotional pricing - When you first purchased your product, you may have received a special introductory discount, a coupon code, or a limited-time promotion. These discounts typically apply only to the first billing cycle. At renewal, the subscription renews at the standard rate listed on the product's pricing page.
Price changes - Product pricing may be updated over time to reflect new features, improvements, and ongoing development. If the standard price has changed since your original purchase, your renewal may reflect the updated pricing.
Plan or tier changes - If you upgraded or changed your subscription plan (for example, moving from a 1-site license to a 3-site license), the renewal price will reflect the new plan. If you upgrade mid-cycle, you may also see an immediate prorated charge for the remaining days in your current billing period.
Mid-cycle upgrade charges and your next renewal
If you upgrade your plan partway through an active billing cycle, two separate charges apply:
- Immediate prorated charge — covers the price difference for the remaining days in the current billing period at the new plan rate.
- Next full renewal at the standard rate — on your next renewal date, you will be charged the full annual price of the new plan.
The standard renewal rate is not the same as any introductory or first-year discount you received when you originally purchased the plan. Introductory pricing applies only to the first billing cycle of a new subscription and does not carry over after an upgrade.
Example: If you upgrade halfway through your annual billing cycle, you pay a partial charge now for the remaining months. On your next renewal date, the full standard annual price of the new plan applies — not the introductory rate and not the prorated amount.
To confirm both the immediate charge and your upcoming renewal amount before completing an upgrade, see How to Check Your Renewal Price.
Legacy, loyalty, or early-adopter renewal prices
Some legacy, loyalty, or early-adopter renewal prices are tied to your original subscription. If an automatic renewal fails and you purchase a new subscription from the pricing or checkout page, the old renewal rate may not carry over to that new subscription.
⚠️ Warning: If your auto-renewal fails and you want to keep an eligible legacy renewal price, renew the existing subscription from your ThemeIsle account using Renew Subscription instead of purchasing a new license.
How to Check Your Renewal Price
- Log in to your ThemeIsle account.
- Navigate to the My Products tab.
- Click Manage Subscription next to the relevant product.
- The Stripe portal will show your current plan details, including the next renewal date and the renewal amount.
- Before completing payment, confirm the amount shown in Stripe matches your expected renewal amount.
Before paying: check the renewal amount
If the amount shown in Stripe is higher than your expected loyalty or early-adopter renewal price, stop before paying and contact our support team so we can review your subscription first.
Can I Get the Promotional Price Again?
Introductory and promotional discounts are typically one-time offers and cannot be applied to renewals. However, we occasionally run promotions that may offer discounted renewal rates. Keep an eye on your email for any special offers.
How to Reduce Your Renewal Cost
If you'd like to pay less at renewal, here are some options:
Switch to a yearly plan - Yearly plans offer a significant discount compared to monthly billing. See Why do we recommend a yearly membership? for more details.
Downgrade your plan - If you no longer need a multi-site license, you can switch to a smaller plan. Contact our support team to discuss plan changes.
Cancel auto-renewal - If you no longer need the product, you can cancel your subscription before the next renewal date. Cancelling stops future charges but lets you continue using the product until the current billing period ends.
Already purchased at the wrong price?
If you already purchased a new subscription and expected a loyalty or early-adopter renewal rate, contact support so we can review your eligibility.
To speed up the review, include:
- Your product name
- Your account email
- Your previous invoice or subscription reference
- Your new invoice number
- The expected renewal amount
