Neve Pro Compatibility with the Classic Editor
Neve Pro is technically compatible with the Classic Editor plugin — you can install and run both together without conflicts. However, the Classic Editor lacks the native block-based layout tools available in the WordPress Block Editor (Gutenberg), which means some advanced layout options, such as multi-column page sections, are more difficult to build using the Classic Editor alone.
This article explains what works, what does not, and the best alternatives available to you.
Compatibility Overview
Neve Pro works alongside the Classic Editor without breaking your site. Core theme features — typography, colors, global layout settings, and sidebar options — are all fully accessible through the Customizer regardless of which editor you use.
However, when you use the Classic Editor, you lose access to the native block-based layout tools that the WordPress Block Editor (Gutenberg) provides:
- Block-based page layouts and spacing tools
- Native multi-column content sections
- Gutenberg-powered widgets and custom content arrangements
📝 Note: Using the Classic Editor does not disable Neve Pro features in the Customizer. Header Builder, Footer Builder, and global style options all remain available regardless of your editor choice.
Key Limitations with the Classic Editor
Multi-Column Page Layouts
The Classic Editor does not include a native way to create side-by-side columns or complex grid layouts. This makes it difficult to build structured product sections, feature grids, or any design that requires content arranged in columns.
Limited Visual Editing
The Classic Editor provides a basic rich-text interface (TinyMCE) without drag-and-drop layout control. Advanced visual arrangements that are straightforward in Gutenberg require workarounds in the Classic Editor.
Recommended Workarounds
Switch to the Block Editor (Gutenberg)
Switching from the Classic Editor to the WordPress Block Editor unlocks the full range of Neve Pro's layout capabilities, including columns, spacers, and block-based widgets. If you are willing to move away from the Classic Editor, this is the most complete solution.
To switch, deactivate or remove the Classic Editor plugin. WordPress will then use the Block Editor by default for all new and existing pages.
📝 Note: Existing pages created with the Classic Editor will still display correctly after switching to the Block Editor. You can then edit and enhance them using blocks.
For more on how Neve Pro works with the Block Editor, see the Block Editor Booster Module Documentation.
Use a Page Builder
If you prefer a visual drag-and-drop workflow over both the Classic and Block editors, a page builder like Elementor integrates well with Neve Pro and provides full multi-column layout support. Neve Pro also includes an Elementor Booster module with additional widgets and design controls.
For details, see Elementor Booster Module Documentation.
⚠️ Important: Using Elementor to build a page may override some Neve Customizer settings for that page. See Neve Shop Compatibility with Elementor Pro for more details on how this interaction works.
