Troubleshooting Common Issues
This guide helps you resolve the most common issues with Titan Anti-Spam & Security. Follow these steps to get your site working smoothly again.
Legitimate Comments Marked as Spam
Sometimes genuine comments from real visitors get caught in your spam filter. This is usually caused by overly aggressive settings or comments from new commenters.
Why This Happens
Titan's anti-spam engine uses multiple detection methods to protect your site. New commenters, comments with certain keywords, or those from unfamiliar IP addresses might trigger security rules.
Solutions
Check Your Spam Folder First, review your spam log to find legitimate comments. Go to Titan settings and check the spam history to identify patterns.
Whitelist Trusted Users
- Go to Titan Anti-Spam settings
- Find the "Whitelist" section
- Add email addresses or IP addresses of users whose comments you always want to approve
- Save your changes
Adjust Anti-Spam Sensitivity If too many legitimate comments are being blocked:
- Navigate to Settings → Anti-Spam
- Look for the sensitivity slider or strength setting
- Lower the setting from "Aggressive" to "Standard" or "Relaxed"
- Monitor comment moderation for a few days
- Adjust back up if spam increases
Keep a whitelist of your regular commenters and trusted websites. This prevents good comments from being filtered.
Locked Out of WordPress Admin
If you're locked out of your dashboard, here are the steps to regain access.
Disable via FTP/File Manager
If you're completely locked out:
- Connect to your site via FTP or file manager
- Navigate to
/wp-content/plugins/ - Rename the
titan-anti-spam-securityfolder totitan-anti-spam-security-disabled - Try logging in to WordPress
- Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins and reactivate Titan
- Review your settings to prevent future lockouts
Only rename the plugin folder as a last resort when you cannot access the WordPress dashboard.
Two Factor Authentication Issues
Lost Access to Authenticator App
If you can't access your authenticator app:
- Use a backup code if you saved them during 2FA setup
- Ask another administrator to disable 2FA for your account
- As a last resort, disable the plugin via FTP (rename the plugin folder) and reconfigure 2FA after logging in
Codes Not Working
If your 2FA codes are being rejected:
- Make sure the time on your phone is set correctly (authenticator apps rely on accurate time)
- Wait for a fresh code rather than entering one that's about to expire
- Check that you're using the code for the correct site if you have multiple sites configured
Backup Issues
Backup Fails to Complete
If backups fail or get stuck:
- Check that your server has enough disk space for the backup
- Large sites may need increased PHP memory and execution time limits
- Contact your hosting provider if server resource limits are too low
Backup File Too Large to Download
- Try downloading during off-peak hours when server load is lower
- Ask your hosting provider about increasing download limits
- Consider using FTP to access backup files directly on the server
Plugin Conflicts
Other WordPress plugins can sometimes conflict with Titan's functionality.
Common Conflicting Plugins
- Jetpack (Jetpack's anti-spam system)
- All In One WP Security & Firewall
- Wordfence Security
- Sucuri Security
- WP-SpamShield
Identify Conflicts
- Deactivate all other security plugins
- Test if the issue goes away
- Reactivate plugins one by one
- Note which plugin causes the issue when reactivated
Resolve Conflicts
- Disable conflicting features in one of the plugins
- Check if either plugin has a compatibility mode
- Contact support for both plugins to report the conflict
- Consider using only one security plugin if necessary
