Robin Image Optimizer AI and MCP abilities

Robin Image Optimizer makes tools available through the WordPress Abilities API. A compatible, authenticated Abilities API or MCP (Model Context Protocol) client can use these tools to read and update optimization settings, process media, restore originals, and check job progress. Robin Image Optimizer exposes the abilities but does not connect an AI client to WordPress for you.

Requirements

• WordPress 6.9 or later, or another environment that provides the WordPress Abilities API functions.
• Robin Image Optimizer installed and active.
• A compatible Abilities API or MCP client connected and authenticated to your WordPress site.
• A WordPress user with the manage_options capability. This capability is generally assigned to administrators.

Follow your client's instructions to connect it to WordPress and make the plugin's abilities available. The client must authenticate as a user with the required capability.

Available abilities

• robin/optimize-media optimizes selected attachment IDs, or converts them to WebP or AVIF. Each call can process up to 500 attachments.
• robin/restore-originals restores selected optimized attachments when original-image backups are available. Each call can process up to 500 attachments.
• robin/get-job returns status, progress, savings, errors, and queue information for a job ID or attachment IDs.
• robin/get-optimization-policy reads compression, conversion, upload optimization, backup, resizing, thumbnail, and scheduling settings.
• robin/update-optimization-policy changes only the policy fields you supply and returns the effective policy.

Processing, safety, and license restrictions

If an optimize or restore response returns done: false and a cursor, call the same ability again with the same inputs and the returned cursor to continue processing the next chunk. For queued optimization, use the returned job_id with robin/get-job to check progress. Continue checking while the job state is working.

Optimizing media changes image files. Restoring replaces optimized files with their backed-up originals, so check the selected attachment IDs before approving either operation. Keep original-image backups enabled if you may need to restore images.

WebP conversion and scheduled optimization are available without Pro. AVIF conversion and the background optimization type require an active Pro license.
