Reviewing, Editing, and Approving Drafts

Once FreshRank creates a draft for your article, you'll want to carefully review the changes before publishing them to your live site. This guide walks you through the review process and helps you make confident decisions about your content updates.

Accessing Your Generated Drafts

Step 1: Go to FreshRank AI → Dashboard

Step 2: Look for posts with a "View Draft Details" status badge (blue) in the Status column

Step 3: Click "View Draft Details" to open the draft comparison page

This page shows you everything about the draft: what filters were applied, what changes were made, and options to view, edit, or take action on the draft.

Understanding the Draft Details Page

When you open a draft, you'll see two main sections:

Left Column:

  • Content Filters Applied: Shows which categories and severity levels were used to create this draft
  • Summary of Changes: A written overview of what FreshRank updated (factual corrections, UX improvements, etc.)
  • Creation Date: When the draft was generated

Right Column:

  • View Changes: Opens WordPress's built-in revision comparison tool
  • Preview Draft: Opens a preview of how the draft will look on your site
  • Edit Draft: Opens the draft in WordPress's post editor for manual editing

Comparing Changes (Before/After)

FreshRank uses WordPress's native revision system to help you see exactly what changed between your original post and the generated draft.

Using the View Changes Tool

Step 1: On the draft details page, click the "View Changes" button

Step 2: WordPress will open the revision comparison screen showing:

  • Left side: Your original content (marked in red for deletions)
  • Right side: The updated draft content (marked in green for additions)

Tips for Effective Comparison

Read the summary first: Before diving into the detailed comparison, review the "Summary of Changes" on the draft details page. This gives you context for what to expect.

Focus on your priorities: If you only enabled "Factual Updates" in your filters, focus your review on whether statistics, dates, and facts were correctly updated.

Check formatting: Sometimes AI-generated content can have minor formatting quirks. Look for:

  • Proper heading hierarchy (H2, H3, etc.)
  • List formatting (bullets and numbered lists)
  • Link preservation (make sure important links weren't removed)

Verify tone consistency: Ensure the updated content matches your site's voice and style. FreshRank attempts to maintain your tone, but you may want to adjust phrasing here and there.

Editing Draft Content Manually

You don't have to accept the draft exactly as FreshRank created it. You can make manual edits before approving.

How to Edit a Draft

Step 1: On the draft details page, click "Edit Draft"

Step 2: WordPress's standard post editor will open with the draft content loaded

Step 3: Make your changes just like you would edit any WordPress post

Step 4: Click "Update" in WordPress to save your manual edits

Step 5: Return to FreshRank AI → Dashboard to approve the draft once you're satisfied

Combining AI Updates with Your Expertise

Best practice: Use FreshRank to handle the heavy lifting (updating dates, fixing factual errors, improving structure), then add your personal touch:

  • Let AI handle: Outdated statistics, broken links, technical SEO issues
  • You handle: Brand-specific language, unique examples from your experience, strategic positioning

This hybrid approach gives you the efficiency of AI updates with the authenticity of human expertise.

Approving Your Draft

Once you've reviewed and are satisfied with the changes:

  • Step 1: Go to FreshRank AI → Dashboard
  • Step 2: Look for posts with a "View Draft Details" status badge (blue) in the Status column
  • Step 3: Click on the “Approve Draft” button in the Actions column
  • Step 4: You'll see a confirmation dialog: "Are you sure? This will replace your live content."
  • Step 5: Click "Confirm" to approve

Approve or reject a draft

What Happens When You Approve

Immediately:

  • Your original post content is replaced with the draft content
  • The post's modified date is updated
  • The draft post is deleted
  • Your post status remains "Published" (it stays live)

In the background:

  • FreshRank resets the analysis data for this post (treats it as brand new)
  • FreshRank keeps the priority score (based on Google Search Console data)
  • Your original content is backed up in WordPress revisions (you can restore it if needed)

Important: Approval is immediate and there's no "undo" button. However, you can always restore your original content from WordPress revisions if needed (Posts → Revisions in the post editor).

Rejecting Your Draft

If after review you decide the draft isn't quite right:

Step 1: Click "Reject Draft" in the Dashboard Actions column

Step 2: You'll see a confirmation dialog: "Are you sure? Draft will be permanently deleted."

Step 3: Click "Confirm" to reject

What Happens When You Reject

Immediately:

  • The draft post is permanently deleted
  • Your original post remains completely unchanged
  • No modifications are made to your live content

What's Preserved:

  • Your analysis results stay intact
  • Your priority score remains unchanged
  • You can create a new draft anytime (perhaps with different filter settings)
