Getting started with the Custom Emails WordPress Plugin

Requirements

Before we go ahead and install the plugin you need to make sure your WordPress install will be able to handle the plugin. You need to have at least the following running on your server:

  • WordPress 3.1
  • PHP 5.2.4

If you don’t have these or you don’t know what these are, it’s worth getting in touch with your hosting provider just to check.

Installation

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin backend.
  2. Go to the Plugins > Add New page.
  3. Click on the Upload tab.
  4. On this page click the Choose File button choose the Custom Emails WordPress Plugin zip file that you previously downloaded.
  5. Install and activate the plugin.
  6. Go to Settings > Custom Emails to configure.

Usage

Once the plugin is active you can configure your settings via the Settings > Custom Emails page. On this page you can set the From Name and From Email of all emails sent via WordPress. All emails will also now be sent out in plain text form and in HTML format. You can select which email template to use via the Email Template dropdown. You can also set a custom footer to be included in your HTML template.

You can also choose to use a third party transactional email service to send all emails from WordPress, rather than using the built in mail system. To do so simply select the service you want to use from the dropdown and hit save. You will then be asked to fill in some extra settings from the selected service (such as API keys). Once you have filled in the extra info, hit save again and you are good to go.
